Progressing the 'Green Pathway'

As part of QuayConnect's commitment to a 'Green Pathway', the team caught up with Hiringa, the company working with Waitomo Fuels to bring Hydrogen to fuel stops across New Zealand. Waitomo Fuels are close to having its Hydrogen refuelling station network complete, covering four sites on SH1 in the North Island. The second phase of their New Zealand rollout includes refuelling stations in Blenheim and Nelson.

Jaron McLeod, General Manager QuayConnect, says that they are watching the progress with eager anticipation, "we are looking into the viability of zero-emissions, hydrogen-powered, heavy transport units to cover the Nelson to Blenheim loop where we have four dedicated trucks operating. The Hydrogen stations are critical infrastructure for the prospect of hydrogen-powered trucks."

In the meantime, partners CEL are investing in the latest technology Euro-6 compliant trucks to continue reducing operations' environmental impact by lowering carbon outputs across the top of the South.

The new Euro-6 truck joined the QuayConnect fleet in December. The Euro 6 is the latest European emissions standard, responsible for reducing carbon monoxide emissions in diesel vehicles by over 82% in the last ten years.
